It has long been our tradition in this Shul that on Kol Nidrei night, every single one of us, men and women alike, makes a pledge of Tzedakah. This is not just fundraising, it is our responsibility to support.
This year’s Kol Nidrei Appeal raises funds for two important causes, one close to home, and the other rather further away but still close to our hearts.
Shaare Zedek Hospital
Our Shul has proudly supported Shaare Zedek UK for over 30 years, raising more than £240,000. Founded as the first Jewish hospital outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls, Shaare Zedek has grown into the city’s busiest hospital, with over 1,000 beds and caring for around 800,000 people annually. It plays a vital role in Israel’s healthcare system, providing round-the-clock trauma care, particularly for soldiers and victims of terror, with a reputation for saving countless lives.
In 2022, the Helmsley Cancer Centre opened at Shaare Zedek, offering world-class cancer care in a 12,000-square-meter facility that includes radiotherapy, oncology day hospital, outpatient clinics, and research spaces. Even during the current conflict, it transformed part of its space into an underground ICU within days, showing its resilience and dedication. This year, our community’s support will help purchase a new ECG machine for the centre, protecting cancer patients from life-threatening heart complications during treatment- one machine that could mean everything to those fighting for their lives.
EAYC
We are an extremely vibrant and busy community punching well above our weight and a Kehilla that each member should be proud of. As you can understand, costs are increasing in a communal building like EAYC, there are significant essential building maintenance works required and a mortgage that needs to be serviced. We need your help to ensure the continuity of our Kehilla.
Monies raised by the Appeal will be split between Shaare Zedek and EAYC.
We are aiming to raise £25,000 this year due to the importance and urgency of the causes.
